TASK 1 - ROLES AND TECHNIQUES
A news presenter is a person who presents news during a news program in the format of a television show, on the radio or the Internet. A continuity announcer is a broadcaster whose voice and, in some cases, face appears between radio or television programs to give programme information. Continuity announcers tell viewers and listeners which channel they are watching or listening to at the moment what they are about to see, and what they could be watching or listening to if you changed to a different channel operated by the broadcaster. Broadcast journalists are the field of news and journals, which are broadcast, that is, published by electrical methods, instead of the older methods, such as printed newspapers and posters. Broadcast methods include radio via air, cable, and Internet, television via air, cable, and Internet, and, especially recently, the Internet generally. Such media disperse pictures static and moving, visual text and/or sounds. The One Show is a topical magazine-style daily television programme broadcast live on BBC One and BBC One HD.
An audience is a group of people who participate in a show or encounter a work of art, literature in which they are called "readers", theatre, music in which they are called "listeners", video games in which they are called "players", or academics in any medium. Audience members participate in different ways in different kinds of art; some events invite overt audience participation and others allowing only modest clapping and criticism and reception. Media audience studies have become a recognized part of the curriculum. Audience theory offers scholarly insight into audiences in general. These insights shape our knowledge of just how audiences affect and are affected by different forms of art. The biggest art form is the mass media.
Audience analysis is a task that is often performed by technical writers in a project's early stages. It consists of assessing the audience to make sure the information provided to them is at the appropriate level. The audience is often referred to as the end-user, and all communications need to be targeted towards the defined audience. Defining an audience requires the consideration of many factors, such as age, culture and knowledge of the subject. After considering all the known factors, a profile of the intended audience can be created, allowing writers to write in a manner that is understood by the intended audience.
A media institution is an established, and often profit based organization, that deals in the creation and distribution of advertising, entertainment and information services. It helps in gathering information, and perceptions about different groups of people and their originality. An institution is any structure or mechanism of social order governing the behavior of a set of individuals within a given community; may it be human or a specific animal one. Institutions are identified with a social purpose, transcending individuals and intentions by mediating the rules that govern living behavior.
Production: making film, inception; optioning; writing the script; pitching to a studio; setting a budget; crewing up; casting; filming; editing. Distribution; the middleman, the studio makes a licensing agreement with a distribution company; they negotiate deals to sell the lease to buyers. Exhibition: the screen, how the film reaches the public, cinemas, DVDs, online and TV.
Genre does not rely simply on what's in a media text but also on the way it is put together constructed. This can be important, for example, when distinguishing between a horror movie and a thriller, which can deal with similar subject matter, and look the same lots of action, set at night but belong to separate genres a horror film takes the audience into a supernatural place, where a thriller sticks to reality.
A media text is said to belong to a genre, as it adopts the codes and conventions of other texts in that genre, and lives up to the same expectations. Texts from different mediums may belong to the same genre e.g. a TV programme like Dr. Who and a comic book like The Incredible Hulk can both be categorized as Science Fiction.
Audiences recognize these features and therefore expect certain things. For example, at the end of a romantic comedy film the two lead characters will realize they are in love. Audiences may even select a text on the basis of its genre. Producers market texts according to genre because a niche audience has already been identified as taking pleasure in that type of text.

Task 2 - research
The style of presentation I went for was a formal UFC match analysis. The target audience for my factual presentation is going to be older people who are into cage fighting so the actual presentation will be very formal and not any comedy involved in it. My intended effect on my audience is to inform them about the previous and next fight that is in UFC. I went for this style because I have a good understanding of the UFC and my co-host in the factual film had even greater knowledge.
I think my audience would be very pleased with the factual presentation because the way I had acted and presented it was very formal and very clear so the point I was trying to make was transferred to the audience very well and clear. My audience would be people or collective groups of people who read or consume any kind of media surrounding the UFC. Without audiences there would be no media. Media organizations produce media texts to make profit. No audience means no profit. The mass media is becoming more competitive than ever to attract more and more audiences in different ways and stay profitable.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is recognized as one of the fastest rising sports in America today. In a matter of two short years, it has gone from an underground spectacle with evolving rules and standards to a recognized sport with a mass fan following comparable in number to "professional wrestling" in the 80s and 90s. The demand the sport has on a fighter's body and the endless time devoted to training that a fighter must endure have solidified the UFC's place as a serious contender for the newest, world recognized sport. The excitement and electricity felt by fans viewing the fight live and by those at home make the UFC, in my opinion, the best sport in the United States today. This is the kind of research I found on the UFC and this is why it interests me which is also why I decided to go ahead and done a factual presentation on it.
I found a lot of information, which helped me a lot while doping my factual presentation. The UFC has been around since 1993 but was not a regulated combat sport until 2001 after an ownership trade leaving Zuffa Inc. in charge of the operations of the UFC. Two years ago the owner of Zuffa Inc. and the UFC, Dana White, reached a deal with Spike TV to air a reality show titled "The Ultimate Fighter." On this show, two already legendary fighters, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, coached a group of 20 fighters, all with amateur or some professional experience, to the goal of being the "Ultimate Fighter." To achieve this they would fight their way into the finals and fight for a six figure contract with the UFC and other large priced gifts, all in front of a live, broadcasted event comparable to a pay-per-view boxing or wrestling match.
The attention the show and event received pushed the UFC into the upper ranks of highly regarded sports. The show is still continuing today and is currently on its fourth installation. The show has gained a lot of attention because of the excitement of the fight that takes place at the end of each episode between two of the fighters.

task 3 - proposal
A lot of my factual presentation was made up on the spot due to the fact that my co-host and me had a lot of knowledge of the subject of UFC. We start off speaking about a recent fight that happened in the UFC, which was Shogun Rua against Dan Henderson. We analyzed the fight speaking about how both fighters fought and who won and why they won. We both had a lot of knowledge about the fight. The next thing we went on to speak about was the upcoming event, which was featuring Jon Jones who is the current Light Heavyweight champion. We spoke about how we thought the fight would end up and spoke about how they fought.
The location of my factual presentation will be situation in the green screen room. I have located the presentation in this room because I want a good background for my presentation, which would be writing on the back saying MMA LIVE and I would have a official UFC desk which they use in the real UFC which makes the factual presentation a lot more presentable and much more formal.
The way we would be presented e.g. clothing. We would be wearing smart cloths like shirts and ties or maybe a suit. This is because in the actual UFC they dress pretty smart so going in the same footsteps as the UFC. The technical resources I would be using would be a camera and the green screen to put backgrounds in. I would also be using the lights from the green screen room to get any shadows out and to make the overall filming much more clearly and better. My presentation will go like this. He showed the granite chin that has become his trademark. He was also rocked in the first frame, but Shogun couldn't finish the 43-year-old veteran. Both Rua and Henderson have struggled since their meeting three years ago, but the old magic was rekindled as they put on a great show for the fans. Not only was the fight entertaining, but also the atmosphere was great in front of partisan, pro-Rua crowd. The event took place in Natal, Brazil, and it's possible that being on home soil put a little too much pressure on Rua. A late comeback bid by Shogun fell just short against Henderson in 2011, and he was once again unable to put together a complete fight on Sunday. With the loss, Shogun is now 2-3 since his initial loss to Henderson, and he has been unable to put together any type of winning streak. There were definite questions regarding the 32-year-old light heavyweight's form entering Sunday's bout, and they will almost certainly persist.
Henderson entered UFC Fight Night 38 having lost three fights in a row, and Hendo desperately needed a positive result in order to turn things around. Henderson's back was essentially against the wall, and he came through with flying colors. There was plenty of talk about the Henderson potentially retiring in the near future, but perhaps the whispers will be put on hold for now. Even with that win, trouble could be on the horizon for Hendo. A recent rule change may adversely impact his ability to perform moving forward. UFC has banned testosterone-replacement therapy, and the ban will begin now that Rua and Henderson have fought. Henderson clearly still has the desire to compete at a high level in UFC, and he gave it his all against Rua. At Henderson's age it is inevitable that his skills will begin to decline at some point, but he proved that there is still some gas left in the tank. He is obviously still a big draw as evidenced by the interest in his fight against Rua, and Sunday's victory should net him some more big opponents moving forward.
As for Rua, he now finds himself in a tough situation. He remains an extremely popular fighter, but he is no longer the dominant guy that he once was. Shogun will likely continue to be placed in high-profile fights because of his name recognition, however, his time as an elite fighter may be over.
